Info - Acton/Boxborough Newcomers & Neighbors Club
With fall in the air and the 2007/2008 season of the ABNNC underway I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped make this year’s Open House a success. I’d also like to welcome all our new members and, of course, welcome back our returning members for another exciting year.
The next big event is the President’s Cocktail Party which is scheduled for this Saturday, October 6th at Bellows Farm Club House in Acton (it is in the Bellows Farm development off of Davis Road and if you need directions please give me a call at 978-298-5007). This year’s theme is “OKTOBERFEST” (see full details of the party further in the newsletter). And, remember if you haven’t paid your annual dues for this year please bring a check for $35.00 made out to ABNNC or go online to our website at www.abnewcomers.org, click on the membership tab and renew there.
We have several exciting events planned for this year including the 2nd AABNNCGWGMN!!! Simply translated – the 2nd Annual Acton/Boxborough Newcomers & Neighbors Club Guess Who Game Mystery Night. If you missed out on all the fun and excitement last year you’re not going to want to miss it again! This is just one of several events to come this year. I hope to see you at an upcoming event – until then, enjoy fall in New England.
Brenda
Next Board Meeting: Wednesday, October 24, 7:00 p.m. (please note new time), at the home of Melanie Kilburn, 7 Huckleberry Lane, Acton. Contact Melanie at (978) 274-2134 if you need directions.
November Newsletter Deadline for Interest Group Leaders: Monday, October 29. Send your articles to vp@abnewcomers.org.

Looking to get more involved in the ABNNC this year? Then look no further – we have several positions still open! If you are interested or would just like to know more about the club, please contact Brenda at president@abnewcomers.org or (978) 298-5007. We’re looking forward to getting to know you better!
This Year’s annual President’s Cocktail Party celebrates the grand tradition of. . . Oktoberfest!
Join us at the Bellows Farm Club House in Acton as we celebrate
this fine Bavarian tradition. The first Oktoberfest was held in the year 1810
in honor of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Therese von
Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The festivities began on October 12, 1810 and ended on
October 17th with a horse race. In the following years, the
celebrations were repeated and, later, the festival was prolonged and moved
forward into September.
Our Oktoberfest will take place on October 6, 2007 from 7:30pm on, and will feature:
· A costume contest – awards for the best depiction of Bavarian Frau and Mann
· Traditional games, music, and an ABNN-style good time!
Bring your favorite beer! Appetizers will be provided.
Watch your email for the eVite, and get ready for a great time!
If you plan to partake of alcoholic beverages, please do not plan to drive.
Remember that your annual dues must be paid prior to the party (or bring a check for $35 with you!).
Please join me in welcoming our new members:

DINNER
GROUP
Do you enjoy sharing a good meal and
conversation with friends?
If so, ABNN’s perennially popular Dinner Group is just for you! The first
dinner is scheduled for Saturday, October 13, so sign up today.
Here’s how it works. One Saturday a month we get together to enjoy a
relaxed dinner with a small group of new and old friends. Each
month you will be invited to come to dinner at someone’s home. The
hosts provide the main course and asks their guests to bring an appetizer,
salad or other side dish, or dessert, as well as whatever you wish to
drink. You may participate as frequently as you wish. The groups change
monthly, so it’s a wonderful opportunity to meet new people. We ask
everyone who joins the group to host one dinner per year – usually about 8
people or whatever number fits comfortably around your dining table.
Questions? Please contact Peggy Molander at pdmolander@gmail.com or
978-697-5344. I hope you will join us!
SAVE THE DATE
The next wine tasting is scheduled for Saturday, November 17th, 2007. All you wine lovers keep an eye out for all the details as to where, what time and most importantly what wines will be sampled. Details will be sent via e-mail.
Attention all ABNNC ladies!!! Our next LNO event is going to be a lesson in exercise. Yes, you read that correctly – EXERCISE. We will be venturing to the Yoga Studio of Margaret Stockley on Monday, October 29th from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. There is no charge for this event but the space is limited to only 10 women so don’t miss out and RSVP today to Brenda at 978-298-5007 or e-mail bjmblb1@comcast.net.
Book Group returns…Mark your calendar for Thursday, October 25 at 7:00. We'll be discussing Barbara Kingsolver’s latest novel, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. The author and her family spent a year deliberately eating food they raised themselves or could get locally. Praise for the book: “… a well-paced narrative and the apparent ease of the beautiful prose makes the pages fly. Her tale is both classy and disarming, substantive and entertaining, earnest and funny.” This selection will truly be “food for thought!”
We'll meet at Susan Spector’s house in Acton. Please RSVP to 978.266.8900 or susan7890@aol.com and directions will be sent to you. Please also bring an idea or two for our next few selections, as well as your date book to schedule two or three future meetings; that way those who can't come to a particular meeting can start on the next book. Hope to see you!
Another interest group that is back by popular demand!!! The ABNNC will once again be “Dining Out” every other month. This is a group of people that don’t want to fire up the grill, turn on the stove, and set the table for one Saturday night every other month. The first “Dining Out” of the season will be a venture into Boston on Saturday, November 10th to Clio Restaurant (www.cliorestaurant.com) at 8:00pm. Clio is located at Mass Ave. & Commonwealth Ave. Please RSVP to Shirlee at ss.stein@verizon.net.
Hello Lunch Bunchers! We kicked off the new year with a wonderful lunch on September 26th at Nancy’s Airfield Café. It was a pleasure to have three new members join some of the “old gang” for a delicious lunch and as always, some great conversations! Welcome Hazel, Kim and Susi!
On October 17th we will be heading to Harvard, Massachusetts to Fruitlands Museum. The fall foliage should be at a peak and we will all be able to enjoy the vibrant colors on the drive there.
The food at Fruitlands is fantastic so we hope that you can join us at noon on October 17th. Visit http://www.fruitlands.org/menu.php to examine the menu and wet your lips!!
Please RSVP to Alison Clement by October 12th at Alison@iclement.net or 978-841-9944. (Please note that we are looking for a group leader for this group. If you are interested please call Brenda Mulcahy at 978-298-5007…Thanks!!!)
